A Call to Fast and Pray for the Deliverance of those in Captivity

We are in a unique time and season in God’s calendar, and we must be sensitive to know what He is requiring us to do. The role of passing knowledge of times and seasons to the people of Israel was the responsibility of the sons of Issachar in the Old Testament (1 Chro. 12:32). However, the Lord has awakened this grace in the Church in recent times, and it is now the responsibility of the person that has been given the privilege to have this insight to share with the body of Christ for their admonition. This is the inspiration behind this post.

The passing away of the Queen of England is an event we have become aware of, and it is one that the Lord has used to communicate His mind to the Church. As we know, God communicates using different means, and among the many ways God communicates is the life of a person and circumstances. These become signs pointing to Christ that we must read to know what in His mind He is trying to communicate. To see this from scriptures, we were declared living epistles in 2 Corinthians 3:2-3. An epistle simply means a letter, and every letter contains words for the receiver. We receive the message in the lives of men and women when we understand the signs that they represent. The circumstances surrounding the life and death of the late Queen Elizabeth is one that contains words and instructions for the body of Christ.

Shortly after the death of the Queen, the Lord gave me the privilege to see her seated among the General Assembly and the Church of the firstborn (the Universal Church) as described in Hebrew 12:23. As we should know, the Universal Church is a gathering whose constituent was revealed in Hebrew 12:22-24, and it includes saints on earth and those departed to glory. At this point, I understood that she is in His bosom resting. However, that encounter was not the only encounter He granted. In another instance, while praying at night, I saw her again, then several visions appeared before me where the Lord gave me instructions for the United Kingdom, which included the instruction to pray for the nation. Around this time, the Lord started making me notice certain things about her death which include the changing of guards, the passing of bartons & inheritances, and the urgent need to fast for the freedom of those in captivity. To be concise, I will focus on just the need for us to fast in this write-up.

The Late Queen Elizabeth reigned for 70 years. Apart from 70 years being the biblical recognised days of the reign of a king, it also indicates a time of remembrance. This is clearly stated in the verse of scriptures below.

At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years, the span of a king’s life. But at the end of these seventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the prostitute….. At the end of seventy years, the LORD will deal with Tyre. She will return to her lucrative prostitution and will ply her trade with all the kingdoms on the face of the earth.
Isaiah 23:17

From the above verse of scripture, we see how 70 years is the span of a King’s life and a time of the deliverance of those in captivity. The statement that Tyre will return to her lucrative prostitution was made because as of then Tyre was an Idolatrous nation, as with other nations of the world apart from Israel (who knew God, though they fell into Idolatry). The revealing of 70 years as a time of remembrance for those experiencing God’s judgment was not just revealed in God’s dealing with Tyra, but also with Israel. After Israel sinned, God expelled them from their land to Babylon. However, when it was time for their deliverance, Prophet Daniel understood by books the number of years of their captivity. Which was 70 years.

in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the LORD given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years. So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and sackcloth and ashes
(Daniel 9:2-3)

According to scriptures, by 2 or 3 witnesses every word shall be established (2 Cor. 13:1). From these parts of the scriptures I just quoted, 70 years represent a time for the deliverance of those in captivity.

How Should We Respond?

When Daniel understood that it was time for the freedom of the Children of God, He engaged in 21 days fast. A kind of fast is now associated with his name (The Daniel Fast). His fast led to the freedom of Israelites from bondage. In the Old Testament, the concept of captivity is literal; people in slavery in a nation different from theirs. However, in the New Testament, it also includes those in satanic bondages and oppression, circumstances not allowing people of God to do the work of God with ease (which may include national laws restricting the free practice and spread of the faith), and any of such. Like Daniel, God expects us to respond in prayer and fasting for the freedom of those in captivity. Especially people of faith.

The most effective fasting and prayer are done when the Lord is requiring it. God said in His word “Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field. (Zech. 10:1)”. Asking for rain when it is not time for rain will not receive an answer from God. This was the case of a certain individual who fasted for the entire period of 70 years when Israel was in captivity and was not heard by God.

“Ask all the people of the land and the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted?
Zechariah 7:5–6 NIV

A fast for 70 years was not respected by God, while a fast for just 21 days at the right time by Daniel brought a great change. Let’s seize this Kairos moment to call on Him on behalf of the oppressed. I believe that apart from the Lord setting people free from captivity, He will be empowering the people who respond to this instruction to fast and pray to be people He will use to set others free.
