We love because he first loved us. ย  I John 4:19

Many believers today have drifted from the passionate devotion they once had for Christ. Just like the church in Ephesus, whom the Lord commended for their works yet rebuked for abandoning their first love, so too have many of us forgotten the fire that once burned within.

Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.

Revelation 2:4โ€“5 (NIV)

There was a time when seeking God’s presence was our highest priority. We prayed without ceasing, worshiped with joy, and delighted in His Word. But now, for some, that love has grown cold.

Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.

Matthew 24:12 (NIV)

Some have placed God in a box, limiting Him to convenience and Sunday rituals. For others, worldly success has replaced spiritual hunger. Like Israel in the time of Hosea, when they prospered, they forgot the One who blessed them.

When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.

Hosea 13:6 (NIV)

Gathering with the saints has become optional, worship has lost its meaning, and fellowship is neglected. The psalmist declared,

I rejoiced with those who said to me, โ€˜Let us go to the house of the Lord.

Psalm 122:1 (NIV)

But today, that joy is absent in many hearts.

Where did the love for Christ go? He has not changed.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Hebrews 13:8 (NIV)

It is we who have wandered. Yet even now, He calls us back with open arms, longing for intimacy and renewed commitment.
Let us return. Let us repent and rekindle the fire that once burned so brightly.

Return to me, and I will return to you,โ€ says the Lord Almighty.

Malachi 3:7 (NIV)

He is willing to receive you, go back to your first love.

Prayer Points

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us to retrace our steps back to Him, in any way we have wandered from Him.
