For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
(Romans 7:19-20 NKJV)
I have a friend I’ve known since childhood. We were very close and did many things together — including some bad ones — before the grace of God found us and we were saved. From time to time, he comes to me complaining about the evil things he sees unbelievers doing, often disappointed that people could act in such a way. I always remind him that he once acted the same way, and so he should have compassion for them.
When we look at unbelievers, they may appear intelligent and knowledgeable, acting as if their evil deeds are the right way to live. Some even openly promote evil with passion and confidence, and we might wonder how they can behave like this. The truth is that they are walking in deep deception because “the god of this age has blinded” them (2 Cor. 4:4). They are slaves to sin and the devil (Rom. 6:16). The evil one controls them as their master, and they must follow his bidding.
Knowing this, we should not be quick to condemn or push them away. In my country, some even physically assault those who belong to the LGBTQ community. This is not the way believers should treat sinners. We must remember that we too were once in the world until Christ saved us. Instead of hatred or violence, we should be moved with compassion, sharing the Gospel in love — the only message able to save and transform their lives (Rom 1:16). Even if they reject us, we should not give up on them but continue interceding in prayer (1 Tim 2:1-4).
The truth is, we know the only solution that can free them from the bondage of sin and the devil — and that solution is Jesus Christ (Rom. 7:25).
Beloved in the Lord, all unbelievers are slaves to sin and the devil, which is why they sometimes do things they themselves dislike. Knowing this, let us show compassion, seize every opportunity to share the Gospel, and lift them up in prayer. Only Christ can set them free.
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His Word today. Let’s ask the Lord to help all Believers around the world to have compassion for unbelievers and sinners.
God bless you all.
