“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Matthew 3:2

One of the earliest and most powerful messages Jesus preached was a simple yet profound call to repentance, echoing the same message delivered by John the Baptist. Repent. It was the same message preached by John the Baptist. It wasn’t just a call to feel sorry. It was a call to turn—to change direction, to leave sin behind, and to return to God.

Repentance is not just feeling guilty or ashamed. It’s not just regret. Repentance is a change of heart and mind that leads to a change in action. It means turning away from sin and turning toward God. It means saying, “Lord, I was wrong—and I need You to make me right.”

True repentance acknowledges sin, grieves over it, and then runs to the mercy of God.

We live in a world that says, “Follow your heart.” But Scripture says, “The heart is deceitful above all things” (Jeremiah 17:9).

If we never repent, we stay trapped in that deception. But when we repent, God forgives. He restores. He renews.

God isn’t asking us to clean ourselves up before coming to Him. He’s calling us to come as we are—with honest hearts and open hands.

Repentance is not the end—it’s the beginning.

When we repent, our hearts are softened.
Our relationship with God is restored.
We begin to walk in freedom, not shame.

Repentance is the doorway to joy. Psalm 51 says, “Restore to me the joy of your salvation.”
There is joy on the other side of repentance.

Friend, God is not looking for perfection—He’s looking for humility. He resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
So today, don’t run from repentance. Run to it. Because when we confess our sins, “He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

Is there something in your heart you need to bring before God today? Don’t delay.

The kingdom of heaven is near. Repent!
