“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

(Mark 8:36 KJV)

 

There was once a very successful businessman who owned many houses, companies, and cars. Everyone in his city admired him for his wealth and accomplishments. However, one day, he suddenly passed away in his sleep. When people gathered for his funeral, they spoke about all that he had achieved in his lifetime. But one thing became very clear — no one could take any of those things with them. His beautiful houses, expensive cars, and full bank accounts were all left behind.

Beloved in the Lord, our soul is the most precious part of us because it will live forever — either with God or separated from Him. Jesus asked a powerful question: What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Sadly, many people today are working so hard to gain the world — money, fame, success, and pleasure — but are neglecting their relationship with God. They forget that everything in this world is temporary, but the soul is eternal.

The truth is, no amount of worldly gain can ever make up for the loss of one’s soul. Even if a person gains all the wealth and power in the world, it will all mean nothing if they die without Christ. The Bible says, “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out” (1 Tim. 6:7). Our real treasure is not what we possess, but who we belong to — Jesus Christ.

Beloved in the Lord, following Jesus sometimes requires us to make sacrifices. It may cost us certain comforts, pleasures, or opportunities, but the reward is eternal life. Let’s not trade our souls for temporary things. Let’s keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, who alone can save and give true satisfaction. Remember, your soul is priceless, and only in Christ is it truly secure.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Let’s ask the Lord to help us not to be distracted by the temporary things of this world but to value our souls above everything else.
