Some years ago, when reading the story of Noah in the Book of Genesis and how God caused a pair of all the animals to come into the ark, I wondered how all of them could fit into an ark with those dimensions. However, I heard the voice of the Holy Spirit in my heart saying, “It’s a miracle.”
When reading the Scriptures, we may come across things that seem impossible or contradictory. Instead of doubting, we need to know that the One who orchestrated the events recorded in it is not limited by the forces of nature. There are certain truths of God we cannot receive unless we know the power of God, which is why Jesus told the Pharisees, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God” (Matthew 22:29 NIV).
The words contained in the Scriptures are not like those in any other book, but are spirit and life. As we read through it, it is discerning us, as Scripture says: “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12 NIV).
So, when we come across what looks like a contradiction, there is a revelation waiting to be discovered. Instead of doubting what is recorded, you can simply ask its author (the Holy Spirit) to clarify any area of concern you may have.
God is one with His Word. Spending time with the Word is spending time with God, so we must approach the Word by faith and reverence. For it is by faith we understand (Hebrews 11:3), and “He that cometh to Him must believe…” (Hebrews 11:6).
Prayer Point
Let’s thank God for His Word. Let’s ask Him to help us approach His Word with childlike faith.
