“Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”
— Matthew 13:12 (NIV)
Some years ago, a friend of mine visited me. As we spoke about God and His faithfulness, recounting what He had done for us, I said to my friend, “There is more.” Not long after this conversation, a group of people who went to England to attend a Brian Houston of Hillsong Church conference in London returned, and a couple among them brought one of Brian’s books to me. The title of the book was “There Is More.”
I knew it was not by chance that I received a book titled There Is More shortly after I had said the same words to my friend. I believe God was confirming His word.
Now, how do we access more in Him? From today’s scripture, we find that everyone has received something from God—even those who think they have nothing. You cannot speak of “more” if you have not first received something. But only those who acknowledge that they have received from God will be given more.
Apart from acknowledging what you have, thanksgiving is another way by which we access more in Him. Thanksgiving is a multiplier. Think about when Jesus fed thousands of people with a few loaves of bread and pieces of fish (Matthew 14–15). Again, when the one leper returned to thank God for his healing, he was made whole (Luke 17), receiving more than the other nine.
We also access more by growing in the knowledge of what He has given to us in Himself. Peter wrote, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3 NIV). By growing in the knowledge of God, we will discover more of what He has given to us in Him and access it.
Finally, I mentioned earlier the book I received titled There Is More. Among the things highlighted in that book on how to access more are believing in the vision and obedience. God increases us when we are faithful to Him. As we trust and obey Him, more will be given to us.
Prayer Points
- Let us thank God for His word today.
- Let us ask Him for grace to access the “more” that is in Him.
