Title: Examine Yourselves

Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?โ€”unless indeed you are disqualified.
(2 Corinthians 13:5 NKJV)

ย

At the beginning of every new year, many people take time to reflect on their lives. We look back at the year that has passed, the decisions we made, the opportunities we embraced, and the mistakes we wish we had handled better. Some people write resolutions, others set goals, and many hope that the new year will be better than the previous one. This natural moment of reflection makes the start of a new year a very powerful and important season.

When the Apostle Paul wrote these words to the Church in Corinth, he was addressing believers, not unbelievers. He did not ask them to examine their neighbors, their leaders, or other churches. Instead, he urged them to examine themselves. This shows us that self-examination is a vital part of our walk with God. It is possible to be active in church, busy with ministry, and still neglect our personal relationship with Christ.

The word of God reminds the believers that Jesus Christ is in them (2 Cor 13:5, 2 Cor 6:19). This is a profound truth. If Christ truly lives in us, then His presence should influence our thoughts, our words, and our actions. Self-examination helps us to check whether our faith is merely a confession with our lips or a living reality reflected in our daily lives. It is not about condemning ourselves, but about aligning our hearts with Godโ€™s truth and allowing His Spirit to correct, guide, and strengthen us.

The beginning of a new year is therefore not only a time to make plans, but also a time to thank God. We are alive today not because of our strength, wisdom, or righteousness, but because of His grace and mercy. Many started the previous year with us but are no longer here. If we are standing today, it is by the Lordโ€™s doing. As we thank Him, we must also take time to examine ourselves and ask: Are we still walking in faith? Are we growing spiritually? Is Christ truly reigning in our hearts?

Beloved in the Lord, as we step into this new year, let us not rush ahead without reflection. Let us thank God for His faithfulness in the year that has passed and sincerely examine our lives before Him. May this year be a year where our faith is not just spoken, but lived, and where Christ is clearly seen in us. Happy New Year, and may the Lord lead us into a deeper walk with Him.

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for preserving our lives and bringing us into a new year. Letโ€™s ask the Lord to help us examine ourselves honestly, renew our faith, and live daily with the awareness that Christ lives in us.

God bless you all, and Happy New Year!
