But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge. ย  Daniel 12:4 (NIV)

Prophet Daniel was one who was entrusted with the revelation of times beyond his own. In one of his encounters, where the Lord showed him the future, he was instructed by the angel to โ€œroll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the endโ€ (Daniel 12:4 NIV). The instruction to seal the words does not mean to literally bind them, but to hide their meaning.

Thus, although we can read the visions recorded by Daniel, some of their meanings were sealedโ€”hidden until a specific time: the time of the end. From all indications, we are already in the end time. This, therefore, is the season when God allows the seals to be opened and understanding of the visions to be granted. However, not everyone is permitted to access these sealed things, as there is a criterion for access. This criterion is revealed in Revelation 5, where a search was made for one who could open the seals of the scroll.

And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, โ€œWho is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?โ€
Revelation 5:1โ€“2 (NKJV)

Reading further, we find that a search was made in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, and no one was found worthyโ€”until one of the elders told John that the Lion of the tribe of Judah had prevailed (Revelation 5:5). That is, Jesus Christ has prevailed and is worthy.

When John beheld Jesus, He appeared in a form that reveals the criterion for opening the sealed words:

And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
Revelation 5:6 (NKJV)

A lamb is used for sacrifice, and for it to appear as though it had been slain means it had been offered as a sacrifice. Yet, the Lamb in Johnโ€™s vision was living, for He walked to Him who sat on the throne. By appearing as a Lamb that had been slain, God was revealing that those who offer themselves to Him as living sacrifices are found worthy to access hidden knowledge of the Kingdom.

Paul said:

โ€œโ€ฆpresent your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable serviceโ€ฆ that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.โ€
Romans 12:1โ€“2 (NKJV)

From this, we see that the knowledge of His will comes after we offer ourselves as living sacrifices. We do this by maintaining a heart posture that is willing to obey God, even unto death.

Scrolls sealed for thousands of years are now being opened, and men are being entrusted with revelations of mysteries hidden in times past. In this end time, only those who are willing to be obedientโ€”even unto deathโ€”are worthy to be given access.

Prayer Points

  • Let us thank God for His Word today.
  • Let us ask Him for grace to offer ourselves as living sacrifices.
