Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father’s household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night. (Judges 6:27 KJV)

God is all-knowing and sees the end of everything even before it starts. He is the architect who designed the future, and only He has the blueprint. For a man, therefore, to fulfil his destiny, he must be directed on what to do and where to go. There is no man who knows the end from the beginning apart from God. That is why even if the instruction is counterintuitive, we must follow it because the owner of the plan is the one that gave it.

In our opening text, we see Gideon carrying out an instruction from the Lord concerning the altars in the land. He broke down the evil altar and made an altar to God. This action could have taken his life because the people did come looking for him afterwards to kill him. He regarded not his life but trusted in God and began the ultimate journey of delivering Israel from the hand of the Midianites. This is one of the reasons he was numbered among the heroes of faith (Heb. 11:32)

Is God giving you an instruction to carry out? Don’t delay with it because it is a tiny piece of the puzzle that, when you carry out, He unveils the next steps towards the accomplishment of what needs to be done to fulfil that divine agenda. Instructions are the tools God uses in communicating his plans in our lives and society. We will be wise to carry them out quickly so that His will can come to pass. Gideon’s yielding produced a platform for God to operate in the land because he began to hear God audibly after he erected an altar to Jehovah.

In conclusion, God is always desiring that we fulfil divine purposes, but the responsibility lies in our hands to build him a functional altar and obey when He speaks. A sheep can not keep itself away from harm without the shepherd, so man can not lead himself to fulfilling purpose without God, who is the owner of the plan.

Let us thank God for His word today. Let’s ask for grace to carry out every one of God’s instructions over our lives.
