For we live by faith, not by sight. ย  2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)

Some years ago, shortly after I returned to Nigeria, I was in a bus with a young lady who was a participant in the yearly programme, Holy Ghost Congress, at the Redemption City of God. We got into a conversation in which I asked her, โ€œEver since you have been attending this programme, what is the most significant thing that God has done for you?โ€

She replied by saying, โ€œWhen I had an accident on my way to (or from) the programme. People died, but I survived.โ€

This was not the answer I was expecting. I thought she would mention something like she was healed in one of the programmes or a specific desire that God granted her. Mentioning an accident that almost killed her sounded like a discouragement from attending the programme. When I asked her why that was significant, she replied that the experience helped her see that she is protected by God. She said that she would have died like the others, but she survived.

I was amazed by how God helped her see good in a situation that appeared bad. That very night, I had an encounter in which God showed me that the reason she saw good in her situation was because she had the gift of faith.

Faith is a seeing force. When Scripture says, โ€œFor we live by faith, not by sightโ€ (2 Corinthians 5:7, NIV), it reveals that faith is spiritual sight by which we walk. It is by faith that we see Jesus in our circumstances. For others, having an accident while attending a Christian programme might be interpreted as a sign not to attend again. But the lady in this story became even more emboldened to attend because she saw Jesus in her situation.

If you do not see Jesus in your situation, you cannot thank Him in all circumstances, as the Word admonishes us to do. Faith gives us a perspective that the natural eyes or mind would find difficult to accept. It is by faith that we see the good in what looks evilโ€”in that which God allows.
