1 Thessalonians 5:18

Let’s be honest—giving thanks is easy when life is going well. When grades are good, prayers are answered, money shows up, and things are smooth, saying “Thank You, Lord” comes naturally. But what about when life feels confusing, slow, or unfair?

God doesn’t ask us to give thanks only when things are good. He says to give thanks in everything. That means in waiting seasons, disappointments, unanswered prayers, and tough moments. This kind of gratitude is not pretending everything is fine—it’s choosing to trust God anyway.

The Bible reminds us that thanksgiving changes our focus. Instead of being overwhelmed by anxiety, we are invited to pray with gratitude.

“In everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6)

When we thank God in hard times, we’re saying, “God, I believe You are still working, even when I can’t see it.” That’s real faith. Gratitude also brings us closer to God.

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving.” (Psalm 100:4)

Thanksgiving opens our hearts to God’s peace and presence.

Remember the story of Lazarus (John 11). Jesus delayed, but He was never late. The situation looked hopeless, yet God was still in control. Delay is not denial. Thanksgiving helps us hold on to that truth.
