6ย But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6 NJJV)

God is faithful and good. You can never serve God and be at a loss. You cannot out-love God. He is too faithful.ย

Jesus himself said we will receive a hundredfold for any sacrifice we make for His sake (Mark 10:29 – 30).ย

However, the hundredfold reward is not necessarily literal (because you donโ€™t always need a hundredfold of what you sacrificed) but an emphasis of how determined God is to reward you far greater than you sacrificed.ย

So this brings me to our topic for today, The advantage of service. Itโ€™s a term I have borrowed from a slogan in the French speaking parts of my home country Cameroon which goes like this โ€œadvantage de serviceโ€ and it translates to English as โ€œadvantage of serviceโ€. Itโ€™s used to describe those advantages or benefits one receives at a job which is not directly their pay. For instance, a doctor receiving a token of appreciation for a successful operation.ย Sometimesย this so called โ€œadvantage de serviceโ€ can even be more valuable than the actual salary for the job.

One of the ways we seek God is by serving others. This comes in the form of voluntary service and even paid services. The bible says in Colossians 3:23-24:

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,ย since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Some times when doing voluntary service it may seem as though you are not getting any benefit. But the Lord is rewarding you in ways you do not see yet. For instance, there is what we call transferable skills. Like David you might be learning how to lead a nation while tending sheep in the wilderness.ย

Each and every one of us has talents from God which we are to use to serve in our communities; be it school, church, municipalities e.t.c. Donโ€™t bury your talents like the man in the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30. ย Jesus said: ย โ€œFor to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. โ€.ย

If you claim you have no talent , no way to serve or contribute to the growth of your community, you risk being like the man in the parable above who buried his talent and lost even the 1 talent he had.

Prayer Point:ย

Let’s thank God for the talents He has given us.

Let’s ask God to help us serve diligently knowing that we are serving God not man.
