Title: The Spirit of Kindness

But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, [34] And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. ย (Luke 10:33-34 KJV)
In the world we live in today, it is so easy to judge people going through unpleasant situations or helpless because they are stuck in a negative predicament. It is quicker to dismiss them as being the architect of their problems and walk away with little or no sympathy.
Our text today focused on the story of a man who was beaten and robbed and left for dead by the wayside (Luke 10:30-37). The first two people that passed and saw him were a priest and a levite. These men were probably going for a crusade or church service to minister the word of God but ignored the dying man. This is the category that a lot falls into. They are working for God but not walking with Him. Jesus commanded us to love our neighbour as ourselves. If we truly love ourselves, we protect, care for, and show compassion to ourselves. In the same way, God calls us to extend that same care to others.
The Samaritan, even though he was not expected to associate with a Jew because of cultural differences, chose compassion over prejudice. He did not ask questions, assign blame, or consider inconvenience. Instead, he responded with action, binding wounds, providing comfort, and ensuring ongoing care.
The spirit of kindness goes beyond mere words; it is demonstrated through intentional acts of love. It requires us to see people through Godโs eyes, not through the lens of judgment or bias. Kindness is not selective. It does not wait for perfection, agreement, or familiarity. It simply responds to need. In a world growing colder and more self-focused, believers are called to stand out as carriers of Godโs compassion. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, reflects the heart of Christ. When we choose kindness, we become instruments of healing in broken places.
As believers, we must desire from God, a heart that notices others and responds with compassion. Someone around you may be hurting silently, waiting for a Samaritan. Be that person. Let kindness flow freely from you, for in doing so, you reveal the love of God to those in need.
Prayer point:
Let us thank God for His word today.ย Let us ask Him to furnish our hearts with the spirit of kindness.
