Many have attempted to define what success is. Some define success as a measure of the number of people you have helped; others say it is being able to have a successor, while many define it as the amount of money you make or the fame you attain. While these may seem good, they are not what God considers success to be. So then, what is success?

Being a process engineer, I have been involved in many research and design projects. Before the start of any project, there is an initial definition of what the aim is. At the end of the project, the extent to which that aim is achieved determines whether the project was a success or not. In the same way, before God sent us into this world, He had a purpose for our coming in mind. As the aim of a project is tied to its success, so is the fulfilment of purpose to the success of our lives.

We are not truly successful if we do not fulfill purpose. Without discovering God’s purpose for you, success in life is not attainable. Although helping people is good and raising successors is admirable, the extent to which you fulfill purpose determines whether you are truly successful or not.

We discover purpose through intimacy. As we fellowship with God by spending time in His Word and praying, asking Him to reveal His purpose for our lives, He will make it known to us. We fulfil purpose by being obedient to both His written and spoken instructions.

Only a life driven by God’s purpose is headed in the direction of success.

Let us thank God for His Word today. Let us ask Him to help us fulfill purpose.
