_[25] But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land; [26] but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow._ Luke 4:25–26 (NKJV)
In Luke 4:25–26, Jesus reminded His listeners that although there were many widows in Israel during the severe famine, God sent Elijah to only one widow—the widow of Zarephath. This was not because she was the most qualified, but because she responded to God in faith and became part of His divine plan (see also 1 Kings 17:8–16).
This passage teaches that God’s blessings are not determined by human status, nationality, or circumstances, but by His sovereign purpose and our willingness to trust and obey Him. While many suffered during the famine, one widow experienced God’s miraculous provision because she believed God’s word through Elijah. Her little flour and oil never ran out, proving that God can sustain those who trust Him even in difficult seasons.
As believers, we should not envy others or question God’s ways. Instead, we should remain faithful, obedient, and available for His purpose. God’s favor can locate anyone who walks in faith and obedience.
God is sovereign in whom He chooses to bless. Faith and obedience position us to experience God’s provision. God can sustain His people even in seasons of scarcity.
Your background or limitations cannot stop God’s purpose for your life.

- Let’s thank God for His word.
- Let’s ask the lord to help us to trust Him even when our resources are limited.
- Let’s ask God for His favor to locate us according to His purpose.
- Let’s ask God to make us experience His supernatural provision in every season of need.
