Title: Suffering For Doing Good

For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
(1 Peter 3:17 NKJV)

Daniel was a man who faithfully served God, yet his faithfulness brought him trouble. When a decree was made that nobody should pray to any god except the king, Daniel did not compromise. He continued to pray to God as he had always done. As a result, he was thrown into the lions’ den. But God was with him and delivered him. (Dan. 6:10, 22)

Daniel’s story reminds us that doing what is right does not always mean that we will avoid difficulties. Sometimes, our obedience to God may bring rejection, criticism, opposition, or suffering. Peter therefore encourages us that, if it is God’s will, it is better to suffer for doing good than to suffer because we have done evil.

As Christians, we must not compromise our faith simply because obedience becomes difficult. There may be times when telling the truth, refusing sin, forgiving others, standing for righteousness, or identifying ourselves with Christ comes at a cost. But God values our faithfulness more than our comfort. (Heb. 6:10)

Jesus Himself suffered even though He had done nothing wrong. When He was insulted and persecuted, He did not respond with revenge but committed Himself to God. (1 Pet. 2:23) He also said, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matt. 5:10)

Therefore, when you suffer because you are doing what is right, do not become discouraged or abandon your faith. Continue to trust God, knowing that the present suffering cannot compare with the glory that awaits us. (Rom. 8:18) Our responsibility is to remain faithful, while God takes care of the outcome.

Beloved in the Lord, let us ask God for the grace to stand firm when obedience becomes difficult. May we never return evil for evil but continue to overcome evil with good. (Rom. 12:21) Like Daniel, may our faithfulness remain strong even when we are tested.

Prayer Point:

Let us thank God for the great honour to share in His suffering. Let us pray for strength, courage, and grace to continue doing what is right even when it is difficult or costly.
