As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.
(2 Peter 1:3 NKJV)

Let’s consider a traveller preparing for a long journey. Before he begins, everything he needs for the journey has already been provided—food, water, clothing, directions, and the necessary equipment. He does not begin the journey empty-handed. He simply needs to make use of what has been provided.

In the same way, God has already provided everything we need for our spiritual journey. Peter tells us that His divine power has given us “all things that pertain to life and godliness.” We are not expected to live the Christian life by our own strength. God has made provision for us through Jesus Christ.

Notice that these provisions come “through the knowledge of Him.” The more we know Christ, the more we understand what God has provided and how He wants us to live. Jesus said, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3)

God has given us His Word to equip us for every good work (2 Tim. 3:16–17). He has also given us the Holy Spirit to guide, teach, and strengthen us (John 14:26; 16:13). Therefore, beloved, do not live as though God has left you without help. When you face temptation, God provides a way of escape. (1 Cor. 10:13) When you lack wisdom, ask Him. (James 1:5) When you are weak, His grace is sufficient. (2 Cor. 12:9)

However, we must make use of what God has provided. We must know Christ, obey His Word, depend on the Holy Spirit, and grow in godliness. Peter therefore says, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Pet. 3:18)

Beloved in the Lord, as we await the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us remember: God has not called us to live a defeated Christian life. Everything we need for life and godliness has been provided through Christ. Let us seek Him, know Him, trust Him, and walk faithfully with Him.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His Word today. Let us pray and ask God to open our understanding to recognize and make use of everything He has provided for our spiritual lives.

God bless you all.
