Title – Activating the word of God
2nd Corinthians 1:20 – For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
Often, people ask this question, does God change His mind? These are legitimate questions and there are instances in the Bible which influence these questions. For instance, after Moses prayed to God on behalf of the people of Israel, the Bible says God repented of the evil which He thought to do unto His people (Exodus 32:14). A similar thing happened in Jonah 3:10 where the Bible says God repented of the disaster that He had said He would do to the people of Nineveh.
However, the Bible says that God is not a man that He should lie nor a son of man that He should change His mind (Numbers 23:19). So, what does this purported contrast mean, and what does it mean when it seems as though God changed His mind?
Now before we can answer these questions, we should ask ourselves what is the mind of God in specific situations like the ones stated above? The mind of God is the will of God, and His will can be found in His Word. From the word of God, we can know the mind of God in certain situations. The will of God is not to bring evil upon man, that is why He gives man time to repent of his evil deeds (2nd Peter 3:9). Also, whenever people sin, God searches for a man who will stand in the gap and plead on behalf of the people (Ezekiel 22:30). We can see examples of standing in the gap from the intercession of Moses on behalf of Israel, and Daniel’s prayer for Israel in Daniel 9:15-20.
There are consequences for both sins and righteous deeds. The path we choose determines what happens to us. But the beautiful thing is that with our free will we can always turn back to God when we stray. When the people of Nineveh humbled themselves, turned from their evil ways, and repented of their sins (2nd Chronicles 7:14), they activated the word of God and changed the negative consequences that were to come upon them. Likewise, when Moses stood in the gap for Israel, he was able to activate the mercies of God and change the course of action that would have happened to the people.
When the word of God is activated in the right way, it breeds results. These results may seem as though God has changed His mind, but in essence, it is a cause-effect relationship. God does not change His mind, and He is a principled God. As He says in Deuteronomy 30:19, he has laid before us life and death, and we have our free will to choose life or death. There are rewards for choosing either of the two.
Hence, what is perceived as a change of mind by God, as in the two instances sighted above, is actually a change of ways by man to align with the word of God, and when it happens, the positive consequences follow. May the eyes of our understanding be opened to be able to activate the word of God at all times. God bless you.

Let us thank God for His word and the answers to our prayers. Let us pray for understanding to activate the word of God to enforce God’s promises for our lives and also reverse negative occurrences.
