Title: Thanking God For What Is Not Yours

โ€œJob stood up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the ground to worship.โ€

โ€œHe said, โ€œI came naked from my motherโ€™s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!โ€โ€

(Job 1:20 – 21 NLT)

ย

I believe that the story of Job is known to all Christians. How he lost all he had and yet never sinned by blaming God for his loss (Job 1:22). Some may say this is bizarre because his situation was truly a tragedy. It wasnโ€™t as if Job was not happy with his former life. On the contrary, Job knew what he had and protected them; he treasured all he achieved (Job 1:5).

The Bible told us that Job feared the Lord. He was an honest man who stayed away from evil (Job 1:1). A man who knew his place in the kingdom of God. We have all been in several tribulation even as Christians, but have we checked on ourselves when going through these trials? Do we have the understanding which Job had that nothing we lost ever belonged to us?

We easily tend to put the blame on others the moment something doesnโ€™t work the way we expected. We mostly blame our God because after all, He said he will provide for us. We easily forget that we never deserved anything at the first place. We have no possessions; we were born naked and empty handed. Job said he had no reason to stop thanking and worshipping God for taking back what never belonged to him. Does it mean that we arenโ€™t allowed to mourn? Not at all, we can mourn over our lost, but we shouldnโ€™t forget the creator and ruler over all that was given in the beginning (Genesis 1:1).

It is written in the word of God that there is a season for everything (Eccl. 3:1-8). Our lives contain a mixture of joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, harmony and struggle, and life and death. Each season has its appropriate time in the cycle of life. Nothing stays the same, and we, as Godโ€™s children, must learn to accept and adjust to the flow of Godโ€™s design. Some seasons are difficult, and we may not understand what God is doing. In those times, we must humbly submit to the Lord’s plans and trust that he is working out his good purposes.

Is there anything you are grateful for even while in your tribulations? Is it only when you have all your heart desires that you tend to see Godโ€™s love for you? Job was still grateful to God even in his tribulations because he knew he hasnโ€™t lost his soul to the devil (Matthew 16:26).

The Lord who has always been a merciful and gracious father saw all that His grateful son had gone through and gave unto him more than he had before (Job 42:10). We need to be grateful and thankful for all we have and all we have lost, for a servant doesnโ€™t own anything if the master has not gifted him.

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His Word today. Letโ€™s ask God to have mercy on all of us and continuously give unto us all that we need.

God bless you all.
