Title: Examine Yourself

Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? โ€”unless indeed you are disqualified.

ย (2 Corinthians 13:5 NKJV)

As year goes and another year comes and we keep wishing one another โ€œHappy New Yearโ€, we donโ€™t have to forget that our time on this earth is coming to an end. I believe the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is very near and we have to be prepared for it. Even if the Lord doesnโ€™t come this year, you may one day depart this earth and judgement awaits (Heb 9:27).

For we [believers will be called to account and] must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be repaid for what has been done in the body, whether good or bad [that is, each will be held responsible for his actions, purposes, goals, motivesโ€”the use or misuse of his time, opportunities and abilities] (2 Cor 5:10 AMP).

Knowing that we will all stand before the Lord and give account, we have to continually examine ourselves, repent from the wrong things, make the necessary changes or adjustments, and keep on doing more of the good things that improved your spiritual life. The truth is that we can pretend all we want and fake our Faith in front of our family, friends, Pastor and Church Members but God sees everything, including all the evil done in secret and hidden in our hearts.

In the message of the Lord to the Church in Sardis, they were known outside to be a very vibrant Church but before the Lord, they were a dead Church (Rev 3:1-6). What I am trying to say is that itโ€™s not about what people are saying about you, but the question is, what does God say about you? What relationship do you have with the Lord Jesus? How is your relationship with the Lord Jesus, if there is any?

I believe this is the right time to make this personal Assessment. Letโ€™s all take some time to reflect on the previous year regarding our Spiritual growth, make the necessary changes and pray into this current year. As we have previously learnt not to change a winning strategy, we also have to know that we canโ€™t keep doing the same things we did last year and expect different results this year. Letโ€™s repent from evil and grow in Love, Hope and Faith. Letโ€™s desire to go deeper in our spiritual life because there is more in Christ Jesus.

Maybe you made a lot of decisions and promises to repent from some things last year but after the first month, you went back to your old ways. Due to this, you are asking yourself, how can this year be different? I believe you relied on your own strength and it failed you. The Holy Spirit will make the difference and He is ready to help you (Acts 1:8). Letโ€™s ask Him to strengthen us and help us to continually abide in Christ, and we will definitely see a difference in our spiritual life.

Beloved in the Lord, we will all stand before the Lord one day and be judged on the life we lived on this earth. Letโ€™s therefore take some time to reflect on the previous year, examine ourselves and make the necessary changes. The Holy Spirit is ready to help us. Letโ€™s keep on working for the Lord and fighting the good fight, and we will be blessed on earth and glorified in Heaven. We will receive a warm welcome by our Lord Jesus when we get to Zion (Luke 12:8). Crowns are awaiting us!

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His Word today. Letโ€™s ask God to help all believers to live in the consciousness that judgement awaits. Letโ€™s also ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen us and help us to continually abide in Christ.

God bless you all.
