Title: New Year Resolution-Part 2

Jesus replied, โ€œI tell you the truth, Peterโ€”this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.โ€
( Matthew 26:34 NLT )

Last week, we started with the topic โ€œNew Year Resolutionโ€ and how our lives will be turned around if only we decide to make four commitments which God encourages us in His word. This is because our own commitments fail us before the year comes to an end. Last weekโ€™s first commitment was to โ€œForget about our failuresโ€. Todayโ€™s second commitment is to GIVE UP YOUR GRUDGES.

The book of Colossians explains why this commitment of God is so important and a significant turning point in our lives. โ€œMake allowance for each otherโ€™s faults and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.โ€ (Colossians 3:13 NLT)

I believe this is one of the hardest challenges for most of us, even as Christians because we face a lot of offenses from our friends and even relatives. Some of them are so painful to forget or even to forgive. However, in the above scripture, God is challenging us directly and personally to give up our grudges.

We have to forgive one another irrespective of the offense or whatever quarrels we may have had. A grudge is an unforgiving spirit that leads to unforgiving attitudes and unforgiving actions.

When you harbor a grudge, it means you are nursing a dislike for someone. Also, what you need to know is that grudges are dangerous because it destroys families and marriages, it ruins friendships and even splits churches.

Not to deny this, one of the main reasons why churches arenโ€™t stable is because of the grudges Christians have against one another. Therefore, if you know you are holding a grudge against someone then God has something to say to you. He says, โ€œgive it up!โ€

Grudges arenโ€™t just destructive against others but are also self-destructive. When you have a grudge against someone, you are not only hurting that person, but you are also causing yourself pain and harm, even more than the other person. Grudges will certainly destroy you, if not physically, definitely emotionally and spiritually.

Beloved servants of God, I believe you remember the parable that Jesus told about the servant who was forgiven a huge debt by the king and then refused to forgive someone who owed him a relatively small amount? What did Jesus say about his end? Jesus said his unforgiving spirit landed him in prison. Letโ€™s, therefore, forgive as the Lord forgives us of all our iniquities!

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His Word today. Letโ€™s ask God to help every Believer to easily forgive anyone who has offended us.
