Title: The Predictive Power of the Word.

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Hebrews 11:3 KJV
As the world experiences birth pains, every Christian should be in eager expectation of the Lord. The hope of His coming is referred to as the great hope that purifies (1John 3:3). One of the ways we express our expectations of His coming is by watching for the fulfilment of certain scriptural predictions. As we take note of these fulfillments, God expects us to take action as this is the way He has chosen to communicate with us in these last days (Heb. 1:1). Therefore, the predictive power of the word is what we must seek to understand.
Genesis 1&2 contains the account of creation that ensued as God spoke the word and called forth things which were previously not there as though they were there (Heb. 11:3). The creation did not stop at the physical mass of the universe and the creatures within it, but the shape of things in every generation was also formed by the word. Hebrew 11:3 states that “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God….” The word that was translated worlds in this part of scripture is the Greek word Aion. One of its root meanings is ages. This means the different ages that have been, even from Adam to this present age were framed by the word of God. So what’s happening now is a product of the word He spoke before.
This reality of the present and future being framed by the word spoken by God in the past is what Apostle Paul indicated in Acts 17:26: “And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings,”. The pre-appointment happened before their manifestations. Therefore, the word of God, that is, the written word (scriptures), can be used to predict the future.
Apart from the written word (scriptures), the word of God can come through other means, which include the manifestation of the gift of prophecy. The superiority of prediction based on scriptures is that it is more sure (2 Peter 1:19). That is, it is certain. Again, Hebrew 1:1 – 2 states: “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son…”. His Son is the Word, and it is by Him He speaks to the New Testament Church.
Therefore, as we wait for His coming, the best place to be is the word. And by the word, we can see clearly what is to come. Dwell in the word today.
