The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. (Psalm 119:130 KJV)

In the parable of the sower, our Lord Jesus painted a clear picture to his disciples in private while interpreting the parable to them about the different scenarios where the seed which is the word of God is sown into the heart of men through hearing of the word (Matt. 13:18-23).

The seed was sown to many, some didn’t understand and the devil took advantage and took it away from their heart, some lost what was sown into their heart because they had no root in God. The only category that had a manifestation are those who received it and understood it. This rooted word which is embedded within their hearts now transmitted light and they could reproduce the evidence of this word in their lives in different measures according to their level of understanding(Matt. 13:40).

The Ethiopian eunuch fits the description of the reader of the word without understanding. The Holy Spirit had to intervene by sending Philip to him so he can have understanding of the passage he was reading in the book of prophet Isaiah about the Lord Jesus Christ. Suddenly, when the reality of the word entered him, light broke out from within and he gave his life to Christ (Acts 8:26-40). The word of God is Spirit powered because the Spirit is what brings the word of God to performance. It is meant to enter into you when heard or read: “and the Spirit entered into me when he spake unto me…..”(Eze.2:2). This entrance culminate in light which can be referred to as deep understanding.

Every time we hear the word of God, do we strive to understand it by the help of the Holy Spirit so it can take root in our heart and bear fruit outwards or we just get excited because it sounds interesting?
When we hear or read the word of God, some areas or the whole message comes alive and we can’t just get over it. That is the area the Spirit of God is highlighting and we need to brood on it by thinking through this word of God(meditation) and the Holy Spirit will begin to sink it deeper and deeper with great understanding in our hearts that we never knew before. When this happens, light is fired up, making us witnesses of this word and we are empowered to replicate it in our daily lives.

Let’s thank God for His word today. Lets ask the Holy Spirit to help us understand the Word so it can bear fruits in our lives.
