Title: The goodness and grace of God

‘‘For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men”,(Titus 2:11)ย
”And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments”.ย (Matthew 19:17)
The goodness of God is the generous manifestation of His character to all His creatures; it is His very holy nature that is displayed forever. God’s attributes such as love, mercy, patience, kindness, and peace are what translate to His goodness. The goodness of God is given to all creatures! living and non-living, earthly and heavenly, animals and humans, visible and invisible. All the works of His hands enjoy the full scale of His goodness. However, goodness does not always signify the presence of God. His goodness in a man’s life does not mean the man is necessarily righteous or a saint because even wicked people experience His goodness (Matthew 5:45). Animals and other creatures also testify to His goodness in their lives.
Now, therefore, we need to understand the difference between His goodness and His grace. The grace of God is the product of His goodness through His character (Love and mercy), which is given to only human beings for the purpose of redemption through Christ Jesus. Animals and other creatures don’t have grace because they don’t have the image of God, hence can’t be redeemed. Every favor that happens to a man without a redemptive purpose falls under the goodness of God and not grace. We also need to understand that grace operates in two forms in the lives of two categories of human beings (believer and unbeliever).
To an unbeliever: ย Grace means a time period given by God (after going to the lowest by reducing His exorbitant requirements) for a sinner to forsake his sinful ways and believe His only begotten son, Jesus,ย who was appointed as the final sacrifice for the atonement of sin of all men (John 3:16). But if the sinner refuses to accept the grace and eventually dies without Jesus, he/she is condemned for all eternity (John 3:18-19).
To a believer:ย After activating grace through repentance and faith in Christ Jesus, grace now teaches the believer to deny ungodliness, and all works of unrighteousness and now live soberly, righteously even in the midst of evil (Titus 2:12). The person becomes a new creature, where the old lifestyle of sin is gone (2 Corinthians 5:17)ย and a new life acknowledged by God began.

Let’s thank God for His word. Let’s ask for His grace to lead us through the path of His will.
