Title: Forgive

Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy. Mathew 5:7
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.ย Mathew 6:14
For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment. James 2:13
Why is it so hard for us to forgive? Sometimes you even hear statements like โI will never forgive him/her, โฆ over my dead bodyโ. Please avoid such alarming and dreadful statements for whatsoever reason. Why do we find ourselves sometimes dwelling and our hearts aching over an offense long after it has occurred.? Well, I may not be able to answer those questions directly but as you can see from our 3 opening verses (and there are many other scriptural verses talking about us showing mercy) God definitely requires us to show mercy. Understanding Godโs requirements helps us to live them out better and it is never without a sweet reward.
We all know that God is just. At our core, all of us know what justice means. Imagine you have someone working for you. And this person has someone working for him. Now the person broke something in your shop worth 2 million and pleaded for some time to repay you back. Rather, you felt compassion and forgave that person. Now later on news comes to you that this your employee was beating up his housemaid and has put her in jail because she broke something in his own house of a far lesser value. You tell me. Who will not be infuriated at hearing this? I believe everyone will say that it is so unjust on the part of the unmerciful servant. Brothers and sisters, the story I have just told you is not entirely made up but similar to the parable Jesus narrated to Peter when he asked Him how many times he should forgive (Mathew 18:21-35). God expects us to forgive because what we have in Christ is far more than we could ever obtain through any works of righteousness. Romans 3:23 tells us all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. God is constantly showing us mercy. So again, you should agree then that it is JUST for us to respond in mercy. The word says if you donโt show mercy but are calling out for judgment then be ready for full judgment too without mercy. (James 2:13)
Beloved in the lord, Romans 8:28 tells us everything is working for the good of those who love God. What this means is that someone may do something that hurts you but if God has permitted it, then it means that God will most certainly turn it around for your good. In Job 42:10, We see how after Job forgave his friends by praying for them, God restored Job back twice as much as He had lost. Because of this understanding why not forgive, since the lord will still bless you through it?
In conclusion, letโs forgive because we too need forgiveness. And since everything is working for our good why not let go and bless by showing mercy?
Prayer Point:
Letโs thank God for His mercy through Jesus Christ. Letโs ask for the grace to trust God and obey in showing mercy with the understanding that we too need mercy and God is faithful to restore a hundredfold.
