Title: When the Spirit of God is in You – Part 2

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed;

(Luke 4:18 NKJV)

In last week’s Call to Prayer, we learnt that the plan of God since creation is to fill the whole earth with His Glory, and this plan didn’t change even after man fell. That’s why He sent His only begotten son to remove the obstacle (sin) so He can pour His Spirit on all Flesh. All Believers now have the Spirit of God living inside us. When the Spirit of God is within you, He empowers you to live a special life and also do some work. One of the abilities the Spirit gives is the love and boldness to preach the Gospel (Acts 1:8). We saw this in the lives of Apostle Peter, Paul, Philip, and the other Apostles.

Our Lord Jesus made this declaration in the above Scripture (Luke 4:18). However, the Prophet Isaiah had already prophesied about it (Is 61). Most people at that time thought that he was referring to the deliverance of Israel from their captivity in Babylon. Our Lord Jesus made us understand that this prophecy was actually referring to Him. The prophecy was fulfilled by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The life of love, power, miracles, signs, wonders, and authority He lived on this earth is evident to all.

The great news is that He has given this authority to Christians, and we also have the Holy Spirit in us (Matt 28:18). Therefore, we don’t have any excuse. We have to spread the Gospel. The Gospel gives comfort and hope to those who are physically poor, and those who are poor in Spirit (Matt 5:3). The Gospel offers treasures, inheritance, and eternal life which no amount of money can buy. Preaching the Gospel of Christ has the power to heal all those who are oppressed and brokenhearted by the calamities of life and sin.

The people in the world think that they are free, but they are not. They are slaves to sin (Rom 6:15-20). They also think they have eyes so they can see and follow their own ways and make their ungodly decisions. Little did they know that they have been blinded by the prince of this world and they are living in darkness (2 Cor 4:4, Is 60:2). They think that they are so much alive, but they are spiritually dead! The Gospel of Christ has the power to set the people free from sin and deliver them from their blindness and bring them to the light. It also has the power to give life to those who are spiritually dead and can even bring the physically dead back to life. Let’s, therefore, preach the Gospel of Christ!

Beloved in the Lord, the Lord has poured His Spirit on all flesh as He promised, and His Spirit now dwells within all who believe in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit gives one the love and boldness to preach the Gospel. The Gospel of Christ gives hope and comfort to the poor and has the power to free men from the bondage of sin. Let’s, therefore, use the power of the Holy Spirit and our Authority in Christ to preach the Gospel powerfully and destroy the works of the evil one.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His Word today. Let’s ask the Lord to give all Believers the love and boldness to preach the Gospel. Let’s ask the Lord to help all believers to exercise our authority in Christ.

God bless you all
