Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel? [12] And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber. (2 Kings 6:11-12 KJV)

One of the ministries that are often overlooked is that of the guardian or gatekeepers. These are men and women on whose shoulders God has placed the responsibility to guard a territory and a people. The territory can be as small as a family unit and can be as large as a nation. Their obedience in carrying out this duty is a determinant as to whether a people remain victorious and are kept in safety or whether they suffer defeat and destruction.

They man the gate to ward off any enemy aggression and if need be, take the fight to the camp of the enemy and suppress them. It is in carrying out this assignment that capacity is increased through the deposit of grace.
David understood this as a former guardian over the flock of his father’s sheep and because he performed his duty well by keeping the flock safe and challenging every enemy attack that sought to destroy the sheep, he became a guardian over Israel.

As a guardian in your family, lives are kept under your care; if you sleep when you are supposed to be on duty, the enemy can strike. Many people are in needless captivity because the guardian assigned refused to take responsibility for releasing them from their captors. As a guardian, you must always challenge anything that is not planted by God in your territory through warfare.

Elisha was a guardian over Israel and he showed us the military infrastructure and formation from the host of heaven at his disposal when the army of Syria came to kidnap him in Dothan (2Kings 6:17). God deploys angelic help for his earthly guardians as long as they are faithful in that which he has assigned them to do.

We have left the gates unmanned for too long and allowed the enemies to have free entry and exit into our territories and families with little or no resistance. It is time to start living up to this demand and start confronting the adversaries that have stolen from the people under your care and destroyed destinies and begin to reclaim the ground that has been previously lost. If only guardians can be diligent, the kingdom of God will be so prevalent on earth because darkness will be shut out.

Let us thank God for His word today. Let’s pray for the grace to fulfil our responsibilities as guardians thereby preserving our families and territories for the Lord.
