This went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of theย Lord, her rival provoked her till she wept and would not eat. 8ย Her husband Elkanah would say to her, โ€œHannah, why are you weeping? Why donโ€™t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Donโ€™t I mean more to you than ten sons?โ€ 1 Samuel 1:7-8

Hannah as we read in the book of Samuel was barren for many years. Her mate Peninnah had children and would mock her. So Hannah was very sad. But 1 Samuel 1:4-5 tells us, Elkana really loved Hannah and would in fact during the time of worship and sacrifice at Shiloh, give her a double portion of meat because he loved her and to comfort her in her barren condition. When Hannah would weep and not eat over Peninnah’s mockery, Elkanah would say to her โ€œHannah, why are you weeping? Why donโ€™t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Donโ€™t I mean more to you than ten sons?”.ย  Without much thinking, it is easy to downplay this question and just dash it aside as a mere consolation and as much as barrenness is a very difficult situation, the gift of a loving husband should never be underlooked. This reminds us of the love of God for us. Also, we know that we as the body of Christ are like a bride and Christ is the groom. We are bound to experience challenges and trials but even in those times there is comfort and in order to live out that season well we need to accept the comfort that is available; among other valuable gifts, the love of Jesus, the gift of eternal life in Him. You can hear him saying to you “Am I not worth more” than your financial crisis, your singleness, your nagging wife, your difficult husband, your Brocken marriage, etc. What do you compare the hope of Eternal life to? What do you compare the eternal love of God to?

When we recognize these comforts and not just dash them aside as simple or ordinary, we find the strength to praise God, which pleases God (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). ย Then our prayers are not just filled with requests but with sincere praise. Brethren, what you are desperate for, some people have it, but still have not found peace. Be still, be strong, give thanks and pray. May the peace of God that surpasses understanding rest upon you in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayer Point:ย

Pray for the grace to accept comfort in whatever way the lord provides it. Let’s pray for the grace to acknowledge that He is truly worth more and deserves all the praise for the prize He paid on the cross. Amen.
