”Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:19-20).

The ministry of soul winning is one that comes with great responsibility, for it is not just a doctrine or encouragement, but it is a command by our Lord Jesus to those who are saved. As we are saved by grace (Ephesians 2:8-9),ย  we already fulfilled the purpose of grace in our individual life. Notwithstanding, we are now charged to go out and tell others about the Savior, about the love and redemption of God at Christ’s expense. The act of Soul winning is a gracious heed to our Lord and also our reciprocal love for Him because of what He has done for us (Romans 5:8) while we were sinners. We win sinful men close to us through spontaneous evangelism; by our character, through our communication, by virtue of our relationship with our surroundings, through our lifestyle, our behavior, and attitude.

Active soul winning involves us reaching out to all men, young or old, white or black, rich or poor, healthy or sick. We don’t need to be ordained pastors, Prophets, or Teachers, or ceremonial Evangelists before we preach the gospel of Salvation. As far as evangelism is concerned, all of us that are saved must carry its cause as a show of obedience and appreciation to what He has done for us. It is very important we understand also that our attitude and expectation when preaching to unbelievers are done in moderation. When we preach to someone who does not know God, we don’t criticize or condemn them, we don’t scare them, we don’t preach as if we are being forced to, we don’t present ourselves as judges of their situation, we don’t preach to them out of frustration, we don’t preach with a carefree attitude, we don’t preach with strive or bitterness even if they seem to be resistive but we preach with a target to win them eventually to Christ, with love, with compassion, with great interest and zeal, and with hope. When we preach to them, we persuade them, we plead or even beg them if there is a need because we are aware of the danger and terror of God (2 Corinthians 5:11) which they don’t know.

We should also bear in mind that, it is significant we understand their condition, for instance, if they are hungry, we try to feed them first before we present Jesus to them, if they are sick, we visit them and pray for them before we introduce Christ to them etc. The essence of the gifts given to us is not for decoration or self-glorification, but that we use them ultimately to draw the attention of sinners so we can win them for God. If you have the gift of prophecy, make sure that through that gift you win a soul. Likewise, if you have a gift of teaching, teach with the sole target of winning a soul to Christ.

Prayer point:

Let’s thank God for the message today, let’s also ask Him to help obey His command to preach the gospel to all men.
