And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. [10] And the thing which he did displeased the Lord : wherefore he slew him also. (Genesis 38:9-10 KJV)

One of the reasons why giving is an uphill task to many is because it does not appear to benefit them in any way at the moment. Rather, it appears as though they are parting with a treasure they can’t survive without. This is a lie that the enemy impresses on our minds to think of scarcity rather than abundance. They therefore miss the reason for the empowerment they had in the first place. God blesses for a reason and it so that the blessed can become a blessing to others also. When God discovers you are extending His blessing to others, He sees faithfulness and is therefore committed to increasing His endowment over your life.

Job was careful enough to give us a detailed account of why he was blessed to the level which he became the greatest man in the east and what he did with the endowment of God over his life “I was eyes to the blind, I was feet to the lame, I was father to the poor and the cause which I knew not, I searched out” (Job 29:15-16). He knew the purpose of God’s blessing and did according to heavens expectation. He therefore continued to increase until he became the very great.

There is an expectation of God towards us that we will be an extension of His hands to men and women around us and by He blessing us, we should likewise give to others and to the advancement of the kingdom. According to our opening scripture, God sees selfish living as wickedness and has the capacity to cut short the life of a man from fulfilling the number of his days. From a spiritual standpoint, such a person is no longer worthy of heavens investment and might be discarded.

Prayer point:

Let’s thank God for His word. Let us pray for the grace to give wholeheartedly and be an extension of Godโ€™s hand in meeting diverse needs.
