Title: The Blessing Guaranteed
By: Daniel Peter

Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abrahamโs offspringโnot only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. ย Romans 4:16 NIV.
At the creation of Adam, God placed him within certain trees at the garden. Judging by the nature of the trees and the dimensions of God they bring Adam into when He partakes of them, suggests that each of the trees contains specific blessing for man. However, Adam’s access to them was limited to his ability to obey the instruction God gave him, and when He disobeyed, he was removed from the Garden (He couldn’t access them any more, and men lived a cursed life).
Like Adam, the Jews were also given access to the blessing, and their access to it was based on their ability to keep the instructions of God (Deautoronomy 28). However, they also were rejected like Adam was. Now, It has been God’s intention to restore man back to His original intent for him, where he won’t just have access to the blessing, but be an heir of it. God demonstrated His plan using Abraham. Unlike Adam, and later the Jews, Abraham’s access to the blessing was not based on his works, but faith for it was given to him by promise. In the same manner, as long as we believe in Jesus Christ, we are heirs of the blessing.
To see that Abraham’s access to the blessing was not based on works, let’s consider that it was when Abraham was 99 years old that the Lord gave him the key to attain perfection: “Walking before God (Gen. 17:1-2)”. What this means was that Abraham wasn’t perfect in his character before then, yet he was blessed. Character transformation is a promise within the blessing but not a condition for it. Abraham attained perfection in his character much later in his life but he was blessed the whole time, and was a blessing.
When it is by faith, then it is guaranteed to us all in this life and in the life to come. But if it were by works, we are only blessed as long as we obey, and just one sin disqualifies you from it. Again, knowing that the blessing is by faith, we should not associate the goodness of God to our performance in keeping His instructions, neither should we trace our challenges to times we made mistakes. Thinking like this suggests you are under the law.
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s thank Him for blessing us without conditions in Christ.
