Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always].ย  ย Colossians 3:15 AMP

When Jesus Christ was about to leave this world, He said to the disciples: “… Peace I leave with you, my peace give to you (John 14.27)”. That statement is also true for us today, who follow after Him. One of the things His peace helps us to determine is what is of Him and what is not.

Now, at salvation, we were translated into Him, that is Christ. And when admonishing His disciples, He mentioned that “… in me (Christ) you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble.. (John 16:33)”, which suggests that peace is in a location called Christ. The location Christ is one that is accessed by faith, and any time we are walking contrary to the word, it’s as though we have departed from that location. When the enemy speaks, it’s intention is to draw you away from Christ, for only outside Him can he harm you. The sign the Lord gives to you when the word you are receiving is not from Him is restlessness (lack of peace). With this we know that we are not to act on the word no matter how accurate it seems.

Peace as a test of His voice plays an important role in decision making. Many times, we may have more than one option to choose from. After asking God what His will is, we may find ourselves becoming more peaceful towards one of the options. And this option may look less favourable in the natural than the others, this is a sign that it is God’s will for us. Usually, this peace is accompanied with joy.

The peace and joy in our spirit are none verbal ways God uses to communicate His mind to us. As we take note of them and decide based on them, we will always find ourselves in the will of God.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us to be sensitive to His peace and joy in our spirit.
