But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 1 Corinthians 1:26

Most of the fathers of faith in the body of Christ have been saying recently that the time has come for the manifestation of the sons of God. The time has come when the sons of God must be seen and not just heard. We are about to see greater manifestations in Character, in Power and in Prosperity. Since Saint Paul was one of the most outstanding apostles of his time and he prayed in tongues a lot(1 Corinthians 15:10, 1 Corinthians 14: 18) then putting one and two together we expect that if this time is a time for manifestation of the sons of God then we expect to see a heightened and widespread practice of speaking in tongues in this time: a tongue speaking generation.

Why is praying in tongues so important? Let’s first eliminate this wrong notion that speaking in tongues is for some special group of Christians. It is as much a spiritual exercise as it is a gift of the spirit. Meaning yes, some are gifted in it as described 1 Corinthians 12 (for the purpose of public ministry) but is also a responsibility for personal development as stated in Jude 20 and 1 Corinthians 14:4. Just like the fact that you are not a gifted talker does not mean you will not talk at all.

Praying in tongues edifies us and builds our faith to carry out the will of God. The word of God is a building component that reveals to you that which is to be done but knowing what to do is different from having the power to do it. Jesus said in Mathew 26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”. He was teaching as well as living the lesson. At that point, Jesus in his spirit knew what was right to do (die on the cross) but still in the flesh he was weak and so he prayed, and an angel appeared and strengthened him. The bible tells us that we don’t always know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit knows and prays for us as we pray in tongues (Romans 8:26).

Personally, as I also make effort to grow in this practice, a tip I learnt and have found useful is to exploit some idle moments like when on a journey to pray in tongues for some time under my breath, so you won’t hear any sound or even realize I am praying. Back to the comparison of the word and prayer, understanding the word inspires prayer and prayer inspires understanding the word.

Prayer Point:

Let’s pray for the spread of the understanding of the importance of praying in tongues and the grace to practice it.
