Title: Hold On To God – Part 2
For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’ (Isaiah 41:13 NKJV)
In last week’s Call to Prayer, I began sharing on the Topic titled, “Hold on to God”. We learnt that it is very unwise for us to put our trust in earthly possessions which easily fade away and in men, who can easily fail and disappoint us. We should however put our trust in the Lord and hold on to Him in times of trials, persecutions, and sufferings because He is faithful.
There are many examples in the Bible of men and women who held on to the Lord in times of trouble and trials and the Lord came to their rescue. Since whatever was written aforetime was written for our learning, I would like to share some with you in order to strengthen you and build your Faith if you are going through any trial at the moment (Rom 15:4).
Let’s first consider Abraham. After he received the promise from the Lord to become the father of many nations, he had to wait for about 25 years to have the promised son. He was 100 years old, and his wife was 90 years when this promise was fulfilled (Gen 21). However, they remained patient and trusted the Lord to fulfill his promise in due time.
After Isaac was born, the Lord tested Abraham’s faith by asking him to offer his son as a sacrifice to Him. He obeyed and was ready to do it until the Lord asked him to stop (Gen 22). Abraham trusted the Lord to provide, and he also knew that the same God who gave him a son after this many years can do so again (Gen 22:8).
Also, there was a time that King Nebuchadnezzar made a golden image of himself and asked his people to worship it. However, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who knew the Scriptures and had read from the Law not to serve any other god except Jehovah, refused to worship the golden image. They were then thrown into a burning furnace, but the Lord protected them, and they were not harmed (Dan 3). The King himself testified that they serve a living God (Dan 3:28-29).
Daniel was falsely accused and thrown into a Lion’s Den, but the Lord saved him (Dan 6). I can go on and on because the Bible is filled with stories such as these. God is still the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb 13:8, Mal 3:6). The same God who did it for these people is alive today and will surely help you and deliver you from all your troubles. So, don’t worry! Just trust Him and hold on to Him.
Beloved in the Lord We are living in End times, and this is accompanied by many trials, persecutions, sufferings, and difficult times. Therefore, if we experience such times, let’s not look unto men. However, let’s learn from Abraham, Sarah, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Let’s hold on to the Lord and continue to trust Him to work all things for our good (Rom 8:28). Let’s remain faithful to the end!
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His Word today. Let’s ask the Lord to help all Believers to trust Him with all their heart and remain faithful to Him to the end.
God bless you all
