This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)

The natural understanding of man about light is anything that stimulates sight and makes physical objects visible. The word of God makes us understand that God is light. God as light indicates several things which makes Him stand out in all things. As light, He is also love (1 John 4:16). Most of the times the scriptures relate God as light, it links His divine nature and His ability to translate to the natural. God as light characterizes His purity, holiness and righteousness. In the earthly realm, we see that God created the Sun, the moon and the stars to rule over darkness, also to give us a hint of how powerful He is over darkness.

God as light manifest through wisdom, knowledge and understanding of His word (Psalms 119:30), and His word is Him (John 1:1). As God’s begotten, we are by default expected to bear His light of righteousness. Jesus urges us to let our light so shine before men, that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father who is in Heaven (Matthew 5:16). As light of the world ( Matthew 5:14), we are given the mandate to shine, this means through the fruit of our lifestyle, through our behavioral pattern, character, in conversation and in purity. The whole world is blind without Christ! The Devil who is the god of this world has been ruling the lives of helpless sinners by caging them in perpetual darkness (2 Corinthians 4:3-4).

The reason Christ prayed to the Father not to take us out of the world is because He wants us to be the continuation of His powerful light ( John 17:15). The function of light is to reproof darkness (Ephesian 5:13). Light is often attributed to knowledge because without it people perish (Hosea 4:6). Now that we are dwelling in the light, it is paramount we reveal it rather than hiding it under a bushel. The more we know God the more the intensity of His light we carry.

Beloved, it is noteworthy that there are several dimensions of God’s light which works in us, even in glory. Some have the light of the Sun, some that of the moon, and some like stars (1 Corinthians 15:41). There are brethren who actually obtain certain lofty dimensions of the light through the mystery of their sermons, prayer and ministry. They can easily understand deep mysteries of God, they can assimilate complex spiritual matters more profoundly than others. When a brighter light shines on a dim light, it makes the dim light almost vague, however, the dim light in absolute darkness shines bright. This is how we all are. For our light to shine brighter, we need to keep fellowshipping with God (1 John 1:7).

Prayer point

Lets thank God for the word, lets also ask Him to reveal more of His light to our lives.
