So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. (John 21:15 KJV)
The story of love between a married couple is a story of sacrifice. Going into a marriage with the intentions of having all your needs met without giving back might turn out to be a fallacy. Expectations that may lead to serious disappointments and the type that has the capacity to weaken or collapse the home.
In our opening text, the Lord was showing Peter what it truly means to love. It goes more than the feeling. It is a call to sacrifice and service. That is why mothers will sacrifice to any length over their children because they love them and that is how they can show it, not just by uttering the words โI love youโ.
Just as Jesus called Peter to a place of accountability in demonstrating his love for Him by feeding the masterโs lambs, He is also calling us today to a place of sacrifice to demonstrate our love for Him. Every genuine love is backed up with sacrifice. Solomon loved the Lord and backed it up with sacrifice (1 Kings 3:3). So, do you love God? The answer will be found when you look at what sacrifice you are willing to give to show it. Even death is a sacrifice worth giving for the sake of the kingdom because love is as strong as death (SoS 8:6).
Loving God is a call to taking responsibility in making sure His name is exalted and His kingdom flourishing. Evangelism and soul winning must be utmost in our daily activities, using every avenue to preach Christ. Obeying instructions of interceding for others even when it is not convenient but because it pleases the Lord is another example of living sacrificially in love.
Prayer point:
Let us thank God for His word today. Let us pray for the grace to demonstrate our love for God at all times through sacrifice.
