Title: Our Refuge
By: Daniel Peter
Date: 03.01.2024
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalms 91:2 NIV
God is not just a person, He is also a location of dwelling. We can discern God as a location when the Bible says “for in him we live, and move, and have our being… (Acts 17:28 KJV)“. Accessing God as a location gives us access to Him being our refuge.
A refuge is “a place or situation providing safety or shelter“. God becomes a place of safety (refuge) for us when we abide in Him. This secret was accessed by King David, who was a warrior and was faced with danger many times. However, with His knowledge of God as refuge and knowing how to access this dimension, he was spared of whatever might have been a risk to Him. In Psalm 91, David revealed that dwelling in the secret place and declaring Him as your refuge is a way of accessing this grace. We dwell in Him as a secret place when we abide in intimacy with Him. This intimacy is not just one that we do while indoors, but that which we carry along in our daily activities. Intimacy with God is kick-started by the consciousness that He is with you; seeing God as one present with you will inspire you to speak with Him.
In that communion with God, you worship Him as your refuge, then He manifests that dimension of Himself to you. Apart from David, Jesus Christ was one who dwelt continually in the consciousness of God the Father. We read of an instant the Jews tried to kill Him by throwing Him off the cliff, but he walked straight passed them with no harm (Luke 4:29-30). I have heard stories of people who disappeared in the face of danger because they chose to speak with God in the midst of it.
One way to maintain our communion with God especially when outdoors is to speak in tongues under our breath.
Prayer Point.
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us abide in intimacy with Him so we can access the dimension of Him as our refuge.
