Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. Hebrew 4:11 KJV
Two days ago I wrote about how we have been delivered from labouring to be blessed as those under the law experienced. I mentioned that we have access to the blessing in the New Testament simply by faith and not by works as it was in the law. By simply believing the Gospel we have entered into rest.
However, there is a new labour that we have to do in the New Testament. This is not a labour for us to be blessed, but a labour to possess the faith to access by grace that which we have in Christ. All that is in Christ is available to us by grace, but we come into grace by faith. Apostle Paul wrote “Through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand… (Rom. 5:2)”. The first labour required for us is “labouring in the word“.ย Scriptures says “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Rom. 10:17)”. As we spend time listening to and studying the word, our faith is being built up (Acts. 20:32).
Another labour that is required of us to grow in our faith is prayer (especially speaking in tongues). Jude wrote “But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit (Jude 1:20)“. As we spend time praying in tongues, our faith is being built up.
Finally, we have to labour in giving to come to rest. Though giving is something that has become a sensitive topic in the body of Christ, it is the most powerful tool to access grace, because it is an act of faith that gives us access to All grace. When Apostle Paul was admonishing the Corinthians Church to give, he said “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work (2 Cor. 9:7-8)”
As we labour in the word, prayer and giving, our faith is built up to enter into the rest that God has given to us in Christ.
