One Thing I Desire
Call to Prayerย
Topic: One Thing I Desire

One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. ย Psalm 27:4 KJV
Human life is filled with many cares that one would normally be concerned about: from our daily needs, the care for safety, and the numerous religious requirements, there are many things demanding our attention. However, despite the many needs, there is a way to them all.
David was the one who first expressed the possibility of living for a single purpose. Being a warrior who lived in the wilderness for a long time, he had learned to depend on God for all things. The single access to all his desires was abiding in the presence (house of God), this was the only thing he was concerned about. And we see from that written in Psalm 27 and 91, that this was the secret of the protection he enjoyed. Apart from protection, we saw how even in the wilderness David was provided for and his camp increased as people came to support him.
Focusing on abiding in His presence, to behold His beauty and to hear from Him was what Jesus meant when He said “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matt. 6:33 KJV)“. Christ is the Kingdom and He is our righteousness. When you seek to abide in His presence, He takes over the cares of our lives even as we trust Him.
We abide in Him by abiding in His word through reading, listening, and meditating on it. Also, we abide in Him when we commune with Him without ceasing in prayer. As we do this, we should desire to see Him (either in visions or the revelation of the word) and to hear from Him. Living for this single purpose is the way to access all the blessings in Christ and we will receive the empowerment to do His will.
