Title: Lord Prepare Me

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.  (2 Timothy 2:20-21 NKJV)

When the Lord rescued the people of Israel from Egypt, they committed a lot of sinful acts on their way to the promised land. There were several times that the Lord wanted to wipe them out or punish them for their sins, but Moses interceded, and the Lord spared them (Ex 32:11-14). After they had settled on the promised land for several years, they and their leaders began to commit evil acts against the Lord. The Lord sought for someone who will stand in the gap for them but found no one. He then poured His wrath upon them and punished them for their sins (Eze 22:29-30).

The truth is that God is always looking for someone to use to perform some tasks on earth (Ez 22.30). This is actually one of the reasons why He sent His only begotten son to pay the price for our sins (Jn 3.16). He didn’t just save us so that we can die and go to Heaven. However, He created us anew in Christ Jesus to do some good works which He has before ordained (Eph 2:10).

God is our creator, and He can therefore choose to use anyone in any way He wants (Rom 9:21). He is the Potter, and we are His vessels and so He can use some of the vessels for honor and some for dishonor (2 Tim 2:20). However, He has given us our Will and depending on how we prepare our vessel will determine how God will use us. Let’s consider these two vessels: Pharoah and Jesus Christ.

The Lord used Pharoah to show His power to all the earth (Ex 9:16). He made himself a vessel with anger and hatred for the Jews and that’s why the Lord used him in this manner. Our Lord Jesus Christ on the other hand made Himself a vessel of humility and obedience. That’s why He was used for good works and His name has been exalted forever (Ph 2:5-11). Therefore, if we cleanse our vessels, we will be used for good works as our Lord Jesus and the early Apostles did.

How do we cleanse our vessels? We are cleansed by the truth in the word of the God (John 15:3, Jn 17:17). Let’s therefore spend regular time reading, studying, learning, meditating, and living by the word of God. Also, Holiness is the main key to cleanse our vessels (2 Tim 2:21). God is holy and therefore requires His children to be holy as well (1 Pet 1:15-16). Let’s be holy and refrain from any form sexual immorality, foolish talk, and sinful acts (1 Thess 4:3-8).

Let’s offer our bodies as living sacrifices to the Lord, committed, and dedicated to do His will (Rom 12:1). Be focused and determined for God to use you powerfully. If you are really serious about it, it will be easier for you to give up some sinful acts for the Lord’s sake and discipline the Body (1 Cor 9:24-27).

Beloved in the Lord, God is always looking for someone to use to do some work on earth. We are His vessels and depending on how we prepare ourselves will determine how He will use us, whether for honor or dishonor. Let’s therefore cleanse our vessels with His word and holiness, and we will be used for good works that bring Him honor.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask God to give all Believers the hunger and love for His word and the Grace to apply it. Let’s also ask Him to give us the Grace to live a holy life and offer our bodies as living sacrifices.
