Title: Compassion For Sinners

And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh. (Jude 1:22-23 NKJV)

ย

One day our Lord Jesus Christ was travelling through the towns preaching the Gospel and healing the sick as He usually does. He reached a certain place where there were large crowd of people. The Bible says when He saw the crowd, He was moved with compassion for them because they looked like sheep without a shepherd. Thatโ€™s when He said that โ€œThe harvest is great, but the workers are few. So, pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields (Matt 9:36-37).โ€

Beloveds in the Lord, I would like to remind you that we were all at some point in our lives living in sin and were on our way to eternal destruction (1 Cor 6:11, Rom 6:23). We were slaves of the devil and of sin and were therefore always doing their bidding (Rom 6:16). In those times, we thought we knew best, and we also thought that we were so much alive. Little did we know that we were dead men and women walking because we had no connection to God, the source of life. However, God out of love saved us by sending His only begotten son to pay the price for our sins (Jn 3:16).

There are many people who are still in the world and living that kind of lifestyle that we used to live. Some of these people are our brothers, sisters, friends, work colleagues and school mates. Knowing where we were and what the Lord has delivered us from, it is therefore important for us to also have compassion on those who are in the world. Letโ€™s be moved by compassion to preach the Gospel to unbelievers so they can also receive the free gift of Salvation.

Letโ€™s also have compassion on fellow Believers who make mistakes and fall into sin. However, when a believer makes a mistake and falls into sin, you will see most of us compare our individual sins with theirs and conclude that we are better than them. For example, you will see believers who used to be gossipers, fornicators and adulterers condemn a homosexual because they think that this sinful act is worst than what they did. The truth is that many forget where they were and the evil they have done until God saved them and thatโ€™s why they do not have compassion on sinners and unbelievers. Donโ€™t forget!

Beloved in the Lord, God had compassion on us when we were still in the world and redeemed us by the blood of Jesus. Therefore, letโ€™s also have compassion towards unbelievers and believers who make mistakes and fall into sin. This heart of compassion should move us to use every opportunity to preach the Gospel to unbelievers so they can also experience the gift of Salvation. Know that having a heart of compassion is having a Christlike heart.

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His word today. Letโ€™s ask the Lord to give all Believers a compassionate heart like that of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God bless you all
