may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledgeโ€”that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:18 NIV

Jesus Christ is the pattern given to us to build our lives after. As we behold Him, the pattern man, we are transformed into the same image. The essence of His image is love, for God is love (1 John 4:8). When speaking about love in Ephesians 3:18, Apostle Paul revealed that love has dimensions: Width, Length, Height, And Depth. And since Christ, who is love, is our life (See Col. 3:4), there’s a depth God is calling us to.

Some years ago, the Lord opened my eyes to see Jesus on the cross. In this vision, the width of His love was highlighted to me; His love is so wide that it extends to all without discrimination. As I meditated on the vision, I realised that every dimension of His love was revealed by His death and resurrection, including the depth, which is our consideration today. The depth of God’s love was revealed when Jesus Christ died and went to hell on our behalf. That is, His love for us is so deep that He died in our place and went to hell on our behalf so we will not have to go there.

Just as Jesus gave up Himself for us, this is the kind of love God expects us to show towards Him and others, for He said “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another (John 13:34 NIV)“. The love Jesus Christ demonstrated towards us at the cross came after He surrendered to the Father’s will. In like manner, when we submit to the will of God, we are empowered to manifest His love in a deeper dimension. the term “deeper life” in God’s sight is a life that is totally surrendered to God.

God wants us to come deeper in Him. We make that movement into deeper depths as we yield in obedience to Him by submitting to His will.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to take all His children deeper in Him.
