Title: Doers of the Word

ยดBut be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selvesยด.(James 1:22)
The general epistles of Apostle James (The biological brother of our Lord Jesus Christ) summarized the fundamental virtues that a believer in Christ should emulate. It talked about gifts, attitude to temptations, the right use of tongues, different kind of wisdom, humility, Faith, favouritism in the church etc. Today, I would like to focus more on doing the Word. Many believers are seekers of signs, manifestations, power, anointing, ascension and different high spiritual endowments which are good, nonetheless, despise the basic and practical reality of the Faith life; which is sound Scriptural doctrine. It is true according to the Scripture, that Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God ( Romans 10:17). The core of the gospel consist of preaching and hearing, without which salvation message is not conveyed.
The truth is, an average Christian whether a church goer or a saved believer hears the Word either in the church, online, via social media platforms, through the radio etc but there is no trace of what he/she hears in reality. The Hymn writer says, when His message comes to you, there is but one thing to do; just Obey! The question is, do we obey all the instructions given to us in the Bible? or we are just selecting the verses that conform to the lust of our own flesh? By our attitudes, we tend to put priority on some scriptural instructions above others, it ought not to be so.
We are charged to forgive our offenders (Mark 11:25-26), do we actually forgive them? or we fabricate justifiable excuses as to why we partially disagree with Godยดs command on that aspect? Do we agree with worldly motivational speakers?ย We are charged to love one another (John 13:34), are we bitter toward people? are we engaging all our consciousness to follow that instruction? are we tribalistic or racists? We are also charged to not Judge others (Matthew 7:1-5), do we condemn or criticise peopleยดs mistakes? we are instructed to be Holy (1 Peter 1:15.16), do we practise immorality in the secret? are we envying one another? do we conform to the depravity of the world? We are charged to follow peace with all men (Hebrews 12:14), do we actually strive to keep that command? or we pay evil with evil?
My beloved brethren, let us lay aside all this hunger and desire for things that do not actually count before Heaven, and begin to observe the instructions that bring practical reality of Christ character in us. We need to make an effort to practise the little we think we know. Knowing Genesis to Revelation without doing them is a waste of time, opportunity! Let us also know, that the Devil knows the Scripture very well, but his ways are opposite of the Scriptures.
Prayer point:
Letยดs thank God for the message, and ask Him for the grace to be doers of the word.
