And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. 1 Kings 17:13

The request of prophet Elijah to the widow of Zarepath was an expression that represents what God is saying to His children in our days. There is a demand and instruction to make Him first. If we look closely, we will discover that even though God had commanded the widow to sustain Elijah even before he got there, the widow decided to exercise her self will and ignore the instruction she had received from the Lord. This is probably due to her current circumstance and she is wondering why the Almighty God of heaven will tell her to sustain another man when she and her son are left with their last meal.

This is the situation a lot of us find ourselves today. We have been praying to God to supply our needs but instead of seeing the abundance, God is pushing the needy towards us to supply their needs. You have a lot of things to do with your time but God is saying make me first. Instead of checking your phone messages as the first thing in the morning, why not start the day with thank you Jesus or good morning Lord and then proceed to have a time of fellowship with Him.

The strategy of faith is such that the Lord is all we will ever need to have all our needs met and that is why even though it seems like the world is about to crash because of the individual circumstances we are in, His words in Matt. 6:33 says โ€œBut seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto youโ€. This is the anchor that every intercessor that is praying Godโ€™s prayer is latched on to. Ignoring your needs to focus on the needs of the Father. Such is the way of sons in the kingdom who have made it their duty to be responsible for their Fatherโ€™s estate.

Are you going to put all else aside and make Him first in everything? That His words will form the decisions you make and you put Him above all else including yourself. This is a depth of love and reverence that God can never ignore.
