Title: A bad deal

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.ย โAll this I will give you,โ he said, โif you will bow down and worship me.โ Jesus said to him, โAway from me, Satan! For it is written: โWorship the Lord your God, and serve him only.โโ Matthew 4: 8-10
Have you ever made a deal where you thought it was a fair deal or a jackpot and then you ended up realizing you were tricked or cheated big time. Well this is exactly what happens every time we accept the devils proposals and commit sin. Sin is a bad deal. A trap ! For you lose far more than you gain.
In the opening verse we see how the devil proposes to give the kingdoms of the world to Jesus in exchange for His soul. I say soul because worshiping the devil is literally turning completely away from God and this means spiritual death. How could this even be a deal? To gain the world and lose your soul … What makes it even more bad as a deal is because all kingdoms of the world were already destined to belong to Jesus (Psalms 72:11, John 13:3). But yes indeed the devil truly might have given him these kingdoms just as many are bowing down to the devil today to receive wealth, fame and power. But at what cost? Because of a short life, are you ready to accept eternal suffering?
Now let’s also remind ourselves here that God has good plans for each of us; His plans are to prosper you (Jeremiah 29:11). God loves you. God is good and His commands are for our own good. That’s why keeping Jesus’s commands is abiding in His love (John 15:9-12) But what the devil proposes through sin is to obtain what God has already promised you in perhaps a quicker way and yet lose far more in the process. The devil comes to steal, kill and to destroy but following Jesus’s commands leads to have life and have it exceedingly (John 10:10).
My brother is that money (or pleasure etc) you are desiring, it is in Christ. And if you are in Christ it is yours but now that it already yours focus on doing your Father’s will instead of chasing what is already yours. Sin is a trap. We don’t live by bread alone but by the word of God so there is Grace to live through that temporal hardship waiting on God’s awesome and amazing deal (Proverbs 10:22).
Prayer Point:ย
Let’s thank God for the word. Let’s pray for grace to trust in God’s goodness even when we don’t yet understand or times we don’t feel it.
