But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. Malachi 4:2 (KJV)

What we expect from the Lord is a function of what we know of Him. Knowledge of God is gained through His word and our personal walk with Him. This knowledge inspires faith and creates an expectation that leads to us receiving from Him.

When speaking to the Israelites about the first coming of Jesus Christ, God said, “The Sun of righteousness shall arise with healing in his wings” (Malachi 4:2). The word “wings” used in this verse comes from the Hebrew word “kรขnรขph,” which includes root meanings such as “an edge or extremity of a garment,” “a skirt,” or “borders.”

When the woman with the issue of blood believed that Jesus Christ was the Messiah, knowing what was written in Scripture – that healing flows from the edge of His garment – inspired her to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, leading to her healing (Luke 8:43-48). Her knowledge of the Messiah created an expectation in her heart to receive and inspired her actions.

God is the same yesterday, today, and forever; He never changes. This means healing still flows from Jesus’ garment today. Like the woman with the issue of blood, we can reach out and touch the hem of His garment and expect to receive.

Yes, I know you may say in your heart, “How can this be since He is not here physically?” However, according to Scripture, a garment symbolically represents the righteous works of God’s people (Revelation 19:8). So, we can see that Jesus’ garment represents His finished works (what He accomplished at the cross). As we meditate on what was accomplished by Him at the cross of Calvary, we are reaching out to Him to receive that which we are expecting.

Peter wrote, “By His stripes, we were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). Meditating upon this truth will inspire us to act out our healing, bringing about its manifestation. Meditation is the key to manifesting the Word of God (see 1 Timothy 4:15).

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us meditate upon His truth.
