Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, โ€œLet us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.โ€
Numbers 13:30 (NKJV)
In the scriptures, it was written that “… as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he (Prov. 23:7 KJV)”. This reveals the power of our minds (the faculty by which we think) in shaping the essence of our being and what we think is possible. How we think determines how we respond to situations.
When Moses instructed the twelve spies to go spy on the land of Canaan (Num. 13), the way they saw and thought of the land influenced the way they responded to the situation. For the ten spies, they saw the size of the giants and felt they were like grasshoppers before them (Num. 13:33). Because they had this negative mindset, they could not inherit the land. The case was different for Joshua and Caleb, who chose to be positive in their thought process and believed they could take the land despite the size of the giants (Numbers 13:30).
Giants symbolically represent challenges. Any time we say to ourselves that we can’t or back down before a challenge, we are acting like those ten spies who were negative in their thinking. The key to being positively minded is being able to see God with you. Apostle Paul said “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me (Phil. 4:13)”. So when we can see God with us, we are enabled to believe that we can overcome the challenge that is before us.
Those with a positive mindset are those that see promises fulfilled in their lives, for being positive is a product of faith, and by faith and patience, we will obtain promises (Heb. 6:12).
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help all believers develop a positive mindset.
