Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.   Hebrews‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭NKJV

God has several names, and each name reveals a function. For example, when Christ was born, Mary was told to name Him Jesus, which means “God saves” for the purpose of His birth was to save men from their sins (Matthew 1:21). In the same manner, every name of God reveals a function.

In Hebrews 12:2, Jesus was called the Author and Finisher of our faith. The word “Finisher” was translated from the Greek word “Teleiōtēs,” which means “a completer.” This means that “Finisher” could also be written as “Perfector,” for a Perfector means a person who completes or makes something perfect.

When Jesus Christ is called the Perfector of our faith, it means He is the one who makes our faith perfect. To understand this function, let’s consider Abraham, whose faith was said to be perfect when he obeyed God to sacrifice his only son, Isaac (James 2:22). This means that obedience was a product of grace. The test was to reveal that God had perfected His faith.

Like Abraham, God wants to perfect your faith – He wants to bring you to a place where you will be able to do whatever He says. This work of God is a process, rather than instant. And the more time we spend building ourselves up by the word and speaking in tongues (Acts 20:32, Jude 1:20), the faster the process.

God did not confirm His promises to Abraham until his faith was revealed to be perfect (Genesis 22:15-18). Those whose faith has been made perfect are those who are established in the kingdom (2 Chronicles 20:20).

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to perfect our faith and establish us in the kingdom.
