And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.( Revelation 12:10 KJV)

In our world today, one of the tools of sustaining the rights of individuals, maintaining order in societies and making sure that equity and justice is carried out appropriately is by the use of law. The provisions of the law serves a deterrent to criminality and to exempt the innocent from unjust punishment. In the spirit, there are legal provisions that can either liberate a man or convict him and that is why Jesus came to die on the cross to redeem us who were once condemned back to God. We will look at a few ways amongst others through which we can engage in spiritual advocacy.

The first way to advocate in the spirit is through the act of intercession. Standing in the gap for others in prayers is pleading their case before God. Abraham interceded for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah because of his nephew Lot (Gen. 18:23-32). Moses interceded continually for the children of Israel during their journey from Egypt to the promise land and we also see Epaphras interceding and labouring fervently in prayers for the believers in the Colossian church (Col. 4:12). These prayers from the saints give the judge of the whole earth premise to exercise mercy upon the people in situations where the enemy has sought for judgement to buffet or afflict them. The same goes for the prayer of petition by the believer themselves and all of these prayers are done in the name of Jesus.

Secondly, through the shedding of the innocent blood of the lamb, we receive atonement for our sins and became children of God when we received Christ. However, the blood keeps speaking on our behalf and advocating for us just as the blood of Abel could speak in courts of heaven demanding justice. In our own case, the blood of Jesus advocates better things for us than the blood of Abel(Heb. 12:24). We can plead the blood of Jesus in situations and circumstances that is beyond our control and we know that can overcome the evil one by the blood of the lamb (Rev.12:11).

Thirdly is by the anointing. The yoke is destroyed because of the anointing (Isa. 10:27) meaning that by being anointed, there are evil occurrences that will not materialise because they have been broken due to the anointing over our lives. Many battles that were won before it even started. Most of these victories happened without us even knowing. Essentially, what this anointing over our lives does is to destroy existing bondages and wrongful convictions that the enemy has secured over us and our loved ones. This was what our Lord and saviour Jesus demonstrated in Acts 10:38 by healing all that were oppressed of the devil. The devil oppressed them initially because he was given permission to but the anointing broke the oppression and set them free.

Conclusively, believers do not need to stay in bondage or held captive under the weight and yoke of sin and the enemy when there is a room to advocate for freedom and enjoy our sonship in the kingdom of our God.

Prayer point:

Let us thank God for the word today. Let us ask Him to give us grace through advocacy to live above bondages and exercise dominion.
